Mark stood and watched the people mill by, he was stood leaning against the city wall just by the main gate. He liked to do this from time to time, simply watch the trade caravans, people and guards go in and out of York. It made him happy to know that York was still a busy old city, even in this day and age.
A rather large Que was building up today, it was a market day after all. However this didn't bother him at all, seeing as he was with the Enforcers he could simply walk right past the civilians trying to get in. He didn't even need to go through a security check, simply had to flash his badge. That may change if the trouble brewing out there in the rest of country grew, but for now he could still enjoy this one little luxury.
He began to make his way towards the gate when he spotted something. He wasn't sure what it was exactly but something about one of the people trying to get into the city just didn't seem right, he couldn't even tell if it was a man or woman. They had a cloak up over their head, covering their face...in the middle of bloody summer.

Cassie waited in line, staring a hole into the back of the old lady's head in front of her. She had a head of balding, wiry white hair and she smelled of moth balls and something that had gone off a long time ago. That was partly the reason why Cassie clutched the hood to her face so tightly; she was trying to smother her nose and mouth so she wouldn't be able to smell, or taste the old woman in front of her.
But she was also huddling underneath the hood because she'd found herself on the wrong side of the Enforcers several months ago and she knew that her face was probably going to be remembered here. She was an ethnic minority too, and that made her stand out even more, so she wasn't willing to take her chances.
Underneath the smouldering summer sun, Cassie suffered the sweltering temperature underneath the dark hood, but if it stopped her from being recognised, and most importantly right now, if it stopped her from being able to smell the old woman who waited in line in front of her, then at the end of it all, the hood was well worth it.
Cassie turned her head to stare down the queue of people behind her. Somewhere back there, somebody was smoking tobacco and the smell was being carried on the wind up the queue towards her. Cassie didn't mind the smell; by now she was used to it after being in so many bars and clubs where you couldn't see for a fog-like haze hanging over the crowd and you couldn't breathe without second-hand smoking. But Cassie turned her head towards the smell because it was miles better than the oldie in front of her, given the choice she would choose to be able to smell tobacco smoke over something foisty anyday.

The trip had taken 4 days longer than expected. After the fiasco at the gas station, Anthony declined travelling with the "Ambassador" despite them heading in the same direction. The man was heading straight there, but Anthony needed a damned rest. Rain, fatigue, and worry had been wearing him ragged for two weeks straight, and he had nearly killed a cop because of it. So he rested in the shelter provided by the station for the following day, performing maintenance on what needed it and taking his first bath since washing up on the shore. So as surely as the Enforcer had predicted, Anthony found himself as lost a blind man in a maze. After being turned around twice and heading a full day down the wrong road, he had finally arrived at York. The last bastion of order in all of Britain.
No sooner had he arrived had he been appalled by the state of the "refugees" that camped along the wall of the main gate. Not exactly rape gangs and torture squads like Jersey; but theft, muggings, and murder were pretty rampant. He kept his hand resting on the handle of his machete and his gear secured for the entire walk thru the camp. When he finally arrived at the gate, he over heard an older couple talking about it being a "Market Day" or some such. * Guess that explains this damn line.* Anthony didn't enjoy crowds. Made it harder to avoid someone coming up behind you. He had to admit though, he was impressed. Not by the walled city itself, but the fact that he had been waiting in line for 15 minutes already and not a single fight had broken out. * Definitely not in Jersey anymore* If he was lucky, the outreach embassy would be open today, but considering the crowd already forming he didn't get his hopes up.

Mark moved in closer as he watched the crowds entering York. From his closer view he could tell that he hooded figure was in fact a woman, but that was all. He casually watched her, making sure he was outside of her field of vision. That was much easier thanks to the hood, as long as he was stood slightly to behind her and to the side he could walk nearly parallel with her and she would have no idea.
However he was careful to keep an eye on her movements, if she didn't want to be seen then she might look over her shoulder every now and again. And the last thing he wanted was to give himself away. At the moment she wasn't quite close enough to the gate to guarantee her capture. He would have to tail her until he was close to the guards before making his move.

When the next section of the line was given the okay and let through the gates of York, the entire queue shuffled up a few metres. Some people stood inappropriately close to each other, as if they hoped that standing front to back with the person in front of them would bump up their place in the line and let them get in to York quicker.
Cassie, on the other hand, left a good half metre between her and the stinking old woman in front of her. It was enough space to save herself from having to smell the woman, but not so much of a distance that would encourage people to jump the queue and barge right in front of her.
If they had, Cassie would have punched them one. Or... she would have let them keep their place in front of her and suffer the old woman's smell as punishment.
She turned her head to the other side so that she could smell the tobacco again, and when she did her eye caught one of the Enforcers that seemed to be eyeing her a little too closely. Cassie's heart skipped a beat. Did he recognise her face? Was he just biding his time before swooping in, trapping her, and making an arrest? Cassie wasn't going to stay in this queue if it meant that every step taken took her closer to some sort of trap.
Fuck this shit. There's gotta be other ways to get into York. And with that thought, Cassie broke off from the queue and sprinted in the opposite direction of the Enforcer. If she was lucky, the long queue of people would act as a human barrier to slow down the man if he came running after her.

Mark was actually surprised. He had expected the woman to maybe try loosing him in the crowd, try walking away casually maybe. but to break out into a full sprint was completely uncalled for, and pretty damn annoying.
She broke away from the crowd on the other side to him, blocking him with the masses of people coming to trade, party and god knows what else. This woman was clearly here to cause trouble, and he wasn't about to let that happen. He looked over to the gate guards as they began to break off into a run, "NO!!!" he yelled across the crowd "STAY AT YOUR POSTS". He had realized immediately that had the guards moved then anarchy would have broken out at the gates as every opportunistic sod would try making a break for it into the city.
Mark forced his way trough the crowd, even going so far as to shove some old lady over. And by the smell of her she wouldn't be any worse off in the dirt on the ground. "SHE'S MINE" He called out to the guards as they composed themselves back at the gates. He had just made it through the crowd when he refocused himself on the woman like a missile finding it's target.

Shit shit shit shit shit shit...
Seeing her run, gate guards had begun to break away from their posts and join in the hunt for her. Some of the closer ones could have caught her, too, if it hadn’t been for the Enforcer behind her bellow orders at them to maintain their positions. So clearly the one that had been eyeing her had the authority to order the other guards around. Typical, she could never be pursued by a petty officer with little training. No, she always had to be chased by the big dogs.
Cassie veered off to the left, further away from the walls of York, and began to direct her sprint right into the heart of the refugee camp that never left York’s boundaries.
She’s mine! the Enforcer in pursuit of her yelled, and as she ran, a long frown crossed her face. Not if she could help it.
The refugee camp wasn’t too far away. If she could clear the last hundred metres or so across flat ground then she could get herself lost in the sea of tents and people. And with that thought, Cassie urged herself forwards and put everything she had into the sprint.
