Here on After England, we like to strive for realism, getting things as close to reality as we possibly can. On this site, the realism starts with the inventory and money system.
With every post you make and every karma point you gain, you get £10. You can then spend the money you acumulate on more items, better weapons, buying your own building that will appear as a sub-board, trade, and other things.
When you begin, you get to pick seven items; five from the list of starter items below, and two group-specific items (provided you're applying for the same group your items are for), and you put them in your character profile in the relevant section. When accepted, you copy those items into a mandatory inventory at the bottom of your signature, which will be displayed in every post you make the same way you might carry around those items.
The code you copy and paste into the bottom of your signature is:
So it'll look like this:
Inventory:
Clothes and food do not go in the inventory.
Starter items:
Lantern
Blanket
Tinderbox & Flint (They count as one, since it's quite useless to have one without the other.)
Cooking Pan
Water Bottle
Map & Compass (Again, they count as one.)
Knife
Small Whetstone
Small Wood Axe
Rope
Small Tent
The maximum number of items you can have in your inventory is fifteen. Think of your inventory like your character's bag, and if you pick up a blanket it'll take up space. If you pick up a lamp it'll weigh a lot more than other items. So the fifteen item limitation is like saying that more than fifteen items would be too bulky, or too heavy to carry.
You can use whatever you have in your inventory, but nothing else. That means if you only have a knife, a blanket and a firelighter in your inventory, you can't go around posting that you have things like handguns. The only things you can use when posting is the stuff in your inventory and things you might legitimately find in a thread when you post.
Of course, a player's character may generously give you an item that you can add to your inventory, but they must remove it from their inventory as well.
Please bear in mind that items can get lost, stolen, or broken during posts, in which case you would need to remove them from your inventory.
Which brings me to my next point: you're not allowed to find absolutely anything. If you post in an old power plant, what are the chances of finding a quilt just lying around? Similarly, I hope you understand that we can't allow people to find firearms and plenty of ammunition in their threads. If you want to find something that's available in a shop, or a handgun and/or ammo, then PM a staff member and ask, don't just say you found one. This forum is set about fifty years after the fall of civilization.... think about it. Besides, guns are a lot more plentiful than ammo, so save those bullets only if you're sure you want to use them, because there's no getting them back.
On that point, because bullets are so rare and getting them made is so costly, it is necessary to post the exact amount of bullets/ammo you have in your inventory. Don't worry, no matter how many bullets you're carrying, they will only count as one space in your inventory.
You're also only allowed to 'find' something and add it to your inventory after your third post in a thread. This stops people from just making a quickie thread in which they can find several items just to add them to their inventory.
Adding things to your inventory that you haven't bought or bothered to post about finding, especially if they are rare items like firearms, is a bannable offence.

Summary:
- Posting earns you money.
- You start off with seven items (five starter, two group-specific) chosen from the list and can buy more as you earn.
- It is mandatory to have an inventory box at the bottom of your signature.
- The maximum items you can carry in your inventory is fifteen.
- All bullets count only as one inventory place.
- You can add things you find in posts, but these must be within reason. People can also give you items if they remove it from their inventory.
- You're allowed to find firearms and ammo only with the permission of a staff member. Otherwise you must buy them.
- Adding things to your inventory without buying them or bothering to post about finding them could get you banned.
