The Details
~Full Name: Alexander Grey
~Nickname/Alias: Alex
~Gender: Male
~Age: 28
~Sexuality: Straight
~Affiliation: Freelancer
~Occupation: Mercenary Fighter
At First Glance
~Appearance: Alex is quite a tall man, standing at a little over six feet. With cropped short brown hair and brown eyes, Alex can blend in almost anywhere without having bright hair or eye colour to distinguish him from a crowd, which works well to his advantage when he needs to remain unseen. No matter how often he tries to shave, he always seems to have a perpetual shadow of stubble over his chin. Although not naturally pale skinned, many days under the sun have tanned his arms and face.
He bears many scars, none of them are really significant, as they're all results of everyday scrapes and injuries, mostly on his hands and arms. He has a circular scar from a crossbow bolt on his left shoulder. Down his right arm and shoulder he has a tattoo that was done by fellow Raiders when he turned eighteen.
Under The Skin
~Likes:
- Women. All of them.
- People giving him a chance to get into an argument. Given the chance, he's capable of unleashing jargon-filled debates.
- Big guns.
- Fist fights.
- All forms of alcohol.
- Being on the job.
~Dislikes:
- Unfriendly women.
- Overly-friendly people.
- Being skint and out of a job.
- Finding out he's out of ammo.
- People who fight dirty.
~Strengths:
- Strtangely, his sleight-of-hand. He's pretty good at the "now you see it, now you don't" stuff.
- Can blend into a crowd very well.
- A good fighter.
- A charmer, and a good liar.
- Has a high pain threshold.
~Flaws:
- He'll do much anything for a beautiful woman.
- Argumentative and stubborn, unless he's getting paid.
- Has a weakness for money, which makes him very easy to bribe.
- Tends to be bad at the stealthy stuff; he prefers to charge in, guns blazing.
- Occasionally taks way too much and puts his foot in his mouth a lot.
~Fears:
- Getting into a situation where his Freelancer status gives him no backup against numerable enemies.
- Being left for dead... again.
Personality: Alex is a notorious womaniser, who'll do pretty much anything for a smile and a pretty face. He's a charmer and a sweet-talker, especially if he's lying to you in order to get himself out of a sticky spot. He's pretty fickle, as well, and will sell his services to the highest bidder. He tends not to honour his promises once it becomes inconvenient for him to do so, and he'll turn his back on you in a second if it gets him cash.
He's a stubborn man, however, and if there's something at the end of the line for him, then he might have your back. Otherwise, he's not really the kind of guy to put your trust in, because when he doesn't need you anymore, he vanishes like ghost shapes in the fog. He doesn't mean to be unreliable, it's just the way he lives, always moving on with few commitments and little loyalty.
He's pretty belligerent, except to his employers, and loves the chance of winning an argument.
Alex, despite his many flaws, is a very difficult man to track down if he doesn't want to be found. He can become the kind of person your eyes skim right over without noticing, and his fast fingers have given him not only his life on the triggers of past weapons, but have also earned him the cash from the pockets of people he 'accidentally' bumps into.
The Past
~Family Members:
Vivian Grey (Mother)
Peter Grey (Father)
Scott Grey (Brother)
Andrew Grey (Brother)
Stephen Grey (Brother)
~History: Alexander Grey was born to a Raider family, and was the youngest of four brothers. It was around these older, bigger, and frankly, stronger brothers that Alex learned how to fist fight, how to throw a punch. How to get hit in the face with a piece of wood and not show the pain.
Alex’s family – and this is almost the only way to describe them – were warriors. They believed in fighting for your keep, and Alex’s parents taught their four sons everything they knew. Pretty early in life Alex toughened up, and even though his smaller size made him an easy target for his older brothers, that wasn’t a problem one he’d fully grown and had become the second tallest out of all of them.
He had learned in childhood that his speed was one of his greatest strengths. When none of his brothers would charge at him, Alex usually managed to dart away in time to find a stick or something to defend himself with. His sleight of hand made stealing from people even without an organised Raider party very simple.
When Alexander turned eighteen, his brothers pinned him down and gave him the same tattoo that they’d all been subjected to at that age. It was a mark of manhood, a symbol of a warrior, and an image that bound the family together. Several weeks later, Alex embarked on a Raiding trip with his two eldest brothers, but hadn’t anticipated the band of mercenary Freelancers who had accompanied for protection.
Alex took a crossbow bolt to the shoulder and his brothers, thinking him dead, left him there.
Alex staggered to York and collapsed in the refugee camp outside the walls. There, the people who sought sanctuary patched him up enough to stop the bleeding, kill any infection, and pointed him in the way of the gates of York.
He was let into the city and began to earn his keep by signing up to the Enforcers. He needed little combat training, as his parents had already taught him how to fight like the best of them, and he was taught how to use a firearm. During his time in the Enforcers, he patrolled the streets, shot down criminals who would have previously been his own people, and generally did anything he could for a few stamped pieces of alloy in his pocket.
Years later, and tiring of petty skirmishes that had little or nothing to do with him, Alex left the Enforcers. He didn’t want to be sucked into anyone’s fights but his own, and he was tired of fighting for the Enforcer cause, not his own cause. He began to offer his services and fighting skills as a Freelancer. He’s been living the solo life ever since.
